Chapter 0: Prologue

Superpowered Battle Stories.

They’re all about superhumans with various abilities, locked in combat.

Why am I suddenly talking about superpowered battle stories?

Because I’ve been reincarnated as Percival Smith, an extra in the superpowered battle story, “War City.”

I’ve been thinking about it since the moment I possessed him, but I really don’t like the fact that I’m now Percival.

“War City” is an action-thriller battle story overflowing with bloodshed.

But the ability this body, Percival Smith, possesses isn’t combat-related. It’s telepathy.

And on top of that, his name is
Percival…

“Ah. There goes another one.”

I stopped my train of thought and looked at a man walking by.

After becoming Percival and through extensive research, I’ve learned the proper use of telepathy.

Even though Percival is homeless, penniless, and incapable of proper combat, he has a unique talent that others don’t.

The ability to send telepathic messages to people from afar.

I quickly transmitted the message I had prepared to the man.

– “Do you… need power?”

A deep, resonant voice that echoed in the chest.

Hearing the voice, the man stopped in his tracks and looked around.

“Wh-What? Who’s there?”

– “If you desire power, accept my contract.”

“Who are you?! What are you doing?!”

– “I ask again. Do you need power?”

Ignoring all of the man’s questions, I continued speaking.

It’s an enticing offer that no man can refuse.

He must feel like he’s become the main character.

After listening to my voice for a while, the man finally gave up on figuring out my identity and asked me a question.

“If I need power, what do I have to do?”

– “Then make a contract with me.”

“A contract?”

– “Yes. Make a contract with me. If you do, I will grant you absolute power.”

“How do I… make this contract?”

Once it gets to this point, they’re practically hooked.

All that’s left is to state the price I want.

As anyone would, what I mostly want is money.

Of course, I can’t just bluntly ask for money.

He might get suspicious.

I have to convey it as elegantly and mysteriously as possible.

I used the ultimate roundabout speaking technique I’d honed over a week on the man.

– “Build an altar. And visit it once a day for seven days.”

“An altar?”

– “I will tell you the location where a powerful energy flows. Place candles there, and build an altar with 5kg of gold, a sapphire, the blood of a cow, and the head of a sheep.”

“Gold, a cow, and a sheep’s head…”

– “Can you do it?”

The man replied in a confident voice.

“…Of course. I’ll make the contract.”

That evening.

I collected the gold and jewels from the altar the man had built and slipped away.

This is the ultimate technique granted to a telepath.

“This is the life.”
