Chapter 0: Prologue

‘Why did it end up like this?’

I stared blankly at the unfamiliar girl in the mirror.
She looked completely different from who I used to be.
A vivid red hair color and pale white skin — rare in Korea unless you dye it.
Grayish eyes.
An appearance that perfectly blended East and West.
A face that even my family wouldn’t recognize.
Yeah.
It looked like something you’d only see in a game.
How I became like this goes back only a short while.

The world faced a great catastrophe.
Not a natural disaster, but an interference from another world.
People called it the Great War.

After the Great War, too many things in the world changed.
Like a game or a fantasy novel.
Various kinds of monsters invaded Earth.
Dungeons appeared across the globe.
And surprisingly, the military was of no use.

Powerful nations even planned to wipe out the dungeons with nuclear weapons, but in the end they banned nuclear use, afraid of what further effects nukes might have on the world.
Then a god who suddenly appeared seemed to offer humans a chance, turning people into the characters of the game they were playing.
Of course, it didn’t happen all at once.
I don’t know the exact order, but people were sequentially possessed by game characters.

At first I assumed I wouldn’t be involved.
I never chose combat classes in games.
I thought the gods would implement only good characters to fight monsters.
But apparently the gods moved even hybrid classes.
Is that why I ended up like this?

‘Do I have to live the rest of my life in this form?’

Only a hollow laugh escaped me.
