Chapter 3: Rising Viewership and Impossible Missions

A week has passed since I started streaming BattleSky.

I only switched games, but viewers started flooding in.

To be honest, most people probably came out of curiosity because of that absurd video.

Whether they’re just poking around or sticking around to enjoy the stream, they’re all my viewers.
My average viewership used to hover around 120 when I started and 100 during gameplay, but now it’s over 200, consistently hitting 300 or more throughout the stream.

It wasn’t a gradual increase—it spiked suddenly.
So, I once asked on stream how people found my channel.

“Alright, I’m curious about something, so let’s do a poll.”

[What’s that?]

[Yup.]

[What is it?]

“Viewers have been spiking, so I want to run a survey on how you found my stream.”

[I just watch ‘cause your meltdowns are hilarious.]

[Saw the chicken clip.]

[Chicken, duh.]

[Most newbies are here for the chicken.]

[No need for a poll, chat’s all about the chicken LOLOL.]

When I asked about their entry point, most said they came after seeing the 1-kill chicken legend clip.

“Guess playing a trending game really brings in the views.”

Luck aligned with the wave of popularity.
To keep these viewers and attract more, I just need to stream consistently and, of course, keep it fun.

“By the way, my FPS skills are actually improving.”

On the first day, I played a dozen games and got just one kill.
A week later, my skills have changed a lot.

After ending that first BattleSky stream, I watched tutorial videos from famous streamers on YouTube to build my skills.
I started with basics: how to find the right posture for FPS, how hand size and grip affect mouse choice.

It wasn’t easy at first.
When I tried shooting with the right posture, my bullets hit everything but people.
I tweaked my sensitivity bit by bit, but there wasn’t much progress—at least not until day two.

As I gained game knowledge, used different guns, and learned about attachments, my aim slowly started to click.

Two days later, I had preferences for certain guns.
I gained confidence meeting players early on without attachments, and my aim improved enough to kill enemies from a distance.

The biggest improvement was in combat when I reached the top 10.
Watching YouTubers gave me a framework, and with experience, my skills were worlds apart from day one.

I’m still far from those YouTubers’ level, but I’m not aiming to go pro, so I don’t need to be that good.

“This is huge progress.”

As my skills improved and I started winning, that initial thrill of victory dulled a bit.

I needed something fresh to reignite that spark.
Am I addicted to dopamine?

Then I remembered a conversation with viewers before ending yesterday’s stream.

“Before I end, you guys interested in throwing some missions my way?”

[Missions?]

[I’d be down, but my paycheck hasn’t come in.]

[Bet you’ll fail and make another legendary clip.]

[You’re just a talent magnet. An FPS newbie improving this much in a week?]

[Missions? Like this?]

[Win and take it!] – 1,000 won

“Oh, like that. I just won, so I’ll take it.”

[Mission success!] – 1,000 won

[1,000 won donation!] – Dude, that was just an example!

“But I succeeded, right? Thanks!”

[Is this guy actually crazy LOLOL.]

[Not wrong, though, legendary LOLOL.]

[LOLOLOLOLOL.]

[But why missions?]

“I was thinking, maybe it’s time to take on some missions.
I’ll try ranked once my skills improve a bit more.”

[You’re ending today, so missions tomorrow?]

[I’ll borrow some allowance and bet, just wait.]

[Just wait.]

[Tomorrow’s gonna be legendary?]

[Missions that easy?]

[Tomorrow’s gonna be a banger, like this if you agree, starting with me.]

[Good.]

[Good.]

[Good LOLOL.]

Thinking back, it pisses me off.
Why did some viewers assume I’d fail the missions like it was a given?

I swore I’d clear every mission today and sat down at my computer, hitting the stream start button.

After my stream intro, I chatted for a bit.
A warm-up, or maybe a courtesy for viewers joining late after the alert.
Same thing, I guess.

As I started the game after chatting, missions suddenly rolled in.
Three missions.
Some YouTubers get four or five, but for a small streamer like me, three is a lot.

I checked the missions.

[Win and take it!] – 100,000 won

[Winner winner chicken dinner!] – 77,777 won

[Victory prize] – 50,000 won

The amounts weren’t just big—they were massive.
For a small streamer like me, it was unreal.

A total of 227,777 won.
About 230,000 won for one win.

“What’s going on? Is this my last mission ever? Am I dying tomorrow?”

[You dying, bro?]

[Got my allowance advance LOLOL.]

[Split in half and die.]

[What’s with these amounts?]

[That’s huge for your stream size. Got a whale?]

[These mission amounts with no whale around!]

“Alright, let’s do this. I’m going no-sleep until I win.”

[1,000 won donation!] – Missions have a 24-hour limit, so it’s a time attack LOLOL.

“Yup, I just need to win within 24 hours~”

Why did I do it?
Where did that past confidence come from?

Why didn’t I remember that after my first-day chicken, I couldn’t get a single kill?
They say frogs forget their tadpole days—guess I’m just like that.

Two hours, zero wins.
A hopeless stat.

“Hey! If you’re sniping me, fess up already.”

[You’re trash and blaming us?]

[LOLOLOLOL.]

[Finally snapped LOLOL.]

[There’s the meltdown.]

[1,000 won donation!] – Video donation.

Knowing it wouldn’t work, why did I do it~

“Hey! Who sent this? Come out!”

[LOLOLOLOL.]

[LOLOLOLOLOL.]

[Knowing it wouldn’t work, why did I do it~]

[Your past mistakes and karma caught up to you LOLOL.]

With three win missions in a row, no other missions came in.

I kept trying, thinking I could at least win once, but every game felt like one or two snipers were targeting me.
Just when I thought it was my chance, enemies popped out of nowhere, turning me into a pincushion.

“Let me get a chicken, please?”

[Want a chicken? Order one. No delivery, no chicken.]

[You won’t die without it. It’s fine.]

[LOLOLOLOLOL.]

[Missions looked that easy, huh? LOLOL.]

[No way those missions are freebies.]

Yeah, I had no allies here.
I sighed and queued up again.

Ding!*

The mission notification sound pulled my eyes to the donation window.
I was already stressed from needing to win, and now someone else… wait, what?

“Hey, am I seeing this right?”

[0-kill win] – 1,000,000 won

[Holy, a million-won mission!]

[Isn’t that a safe bet? LOLOL.]

[What’s the failure or cancellation fee?]

[It’s 10% fee, so just trying gets you 100,000 won free.]

[Wow! A chance at 1.5 million for one win!]

“But this is totally an ‘I’m not letting you have it’ vibe, right?”

[No-give vibe is legendary.]

[No-give kinda rolls off the tongue.]

[Absolute confidence you won’t win LOL.]

It’s great that they’re throwing out missions, but… a 0-kill win?
That’s not just skill—it’s mostly luck, the kind of thing pro YouTubers use for viral content.

It’s a mission thrown out with the mindset of not letting me have that million won.
Set the bar high and let me scrape by with 100,000 won.

“But when it’s set up like this, it makes me stubborn.”

Humans are endlessly greedy, repeating the same mistakes and forgetting them.

What’s the point of being stubborn if I don’t have the skills?

The skills!!!

#5th / 0 kills

“Man, I’m speechless. Isn’t this straight-up hacking?”

[Nope, not hacking.]

[You’ve never seen real hacks.]

[Real hackers aren’t like this.]

[Wonder how you’d react to an actual hacker.]

[1,000 won donation!] Looks like hacking?

“Right? It’s hacking, I tell you.”

[1,000 won donation!] You’re just trash at this.

[LMAO LOLOLOL.]

[Curveball legendary.]

[Trash-tier hack LOLOL.]

[LOLOLOLOLOL.]

[Isn’t this the guy who got carried yesterday? Do an autopsy LOLOL.]

Shaking with rage at the mockery, I queued up for the next game.
Looking at my aim today, I was genuinely worried I wouldn’t win once.

But then…

“Hey, you guys…”

[“Lucia” donated 10,000 won!] – Hi, sorry to ask out of the blue, but are you free for a Discord call?

…What?
